Learning from Exploring: Life as a Philadelphian
Philadelphia was once the largest port in the United States. Today the city in which Americas independence was declared is a world-class metropolis with historic and cultural attractions that draw visitors daily from all over the globe.
Much of Philadelphia is accessible on foot. From The Philadelphia Center, you can walk easily to half a dozen theaters, several major art and science museums, the citys main shopping district, South Street (with its buzzing and colorful night scene), the Kimmel Center (home of the Philadelphia Orchestra), the Italian Market, Independence Hall, The Liberty Bell, and scores of top-notch restaurants.
A longer walk takes you to the renowned collections of the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the worlds largest city park with over 8,000 acres where you can bike, row, run, picnic, and roller-blade along the banks of the Schuylkill River.
